Knights, St Johns Hill

Walking into an empty restaurant I tend to find a bit off putting. Why is it empty? Where are the people? Why does no-one else want to eat here? Why are we the only one's here? What don't we know? Why? Why? Why? In this case the answer was, we were early.
Within half an hour of us sitting down and ordering drinks Knights was packed with families who'd given their kitchens a night off (mine would love to have a night on, to fell useful and not like it was just taking up much needed space in my flat).

The Sunday Roast was £10, including a glass of wine. There were no menus (i'm guessing they saved money on printing so they could offer such a fantastically priced roast) and we were offered the option of Beef or Chicken. One of the down sides of there being no menu, was that the chicken came with a sausage stuffing and I don't eat pork so it had to be sent back. Had there been a menu this would have been on it and the 15 minutes I spent waiting for a stuffing less option could have been avoided. However, all was smoothed over with a free glass of wine and the fact that the Roast, although Yorkshire Pudding-less (WTH?!!) absolutely hit the spot and left us room for dessert.

Sweet Tooth's were satisfied with a stewed brandy apple and winter-berry crumble served with ice cream, upside down but sweet and tart in all the right places and a Butterscotch flan with short biscuits and strawberries dipped in white chocolate. I didn't expect the flan to actually be flan (go figure), i'm not sure what I expected, but what I got was perfect. Smooth, creamy, not too sweet and delicious crumbly biscuit, not sure the strawberry was necessary but I appreciated it all the same.

All in all I would definitely revisit Knights of St Johns Hill it had a nice Sunday afternoon family vibe, delicious food, great service and was extremely reasonably priced. On leaving we were told we could have ordered Yorkshire Puddings as a side with Chicken, but they come as standard with Beef. Noted.
